Place the extender in the room with a coax or Ethernet outlet where your Wi-Fi signal is weak or spotty. To minimize any Wi-Fi signal weakness, the extender should ideally be placed:

- Away from heat sources, moisture, excessive dust or extreme cold
- Away from any large metal objects
To extend Wi-Fi coverage to your backyard, place the extender near a window.

It is incompatible with newer routers including the Fios Router (Model G3100) and the ɧ»¢ÊÓƵ Router (Model CR1000A/B). Note that ɧ»¢ÊÓƵ Fios routers older than the Fios Quantum Gateway have been retired and are no longer supported.
No. Fios Network Extenders support Wireless Protected Setup (WPS) to replicate the Wi-Fi name (SSID) configuration from the router, but once SSIDs are configured, the extender requires a connection back to the router via coax or Ethernet in order to pass data traffic back to the router and on to the internet.
