A screen lock secures your Apple®<\/span> iPhone®<\/span> and keeps it private. Setting it up or adjusting the options helps you find the right balance between security and accessibility.<\/div><\/div>

Before you begin<\/div><\/h2>

If the passcode is forgotten, your iPhone needs to be restored to default settings using iTunes®<\/span>. Refer to this iTunes support page<\/a> for instructions.<\/div><\/section><\/div> <\/div> <\/div>

Steps<\/div><\/h2>

Open the
Settings app<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
Tap
Display \x26 Brightness<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
Tap
Auto\u002DLock<\/div><\/span> then select the auto\u002Dlock time interval.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
To return to Settings, tap the
Back arrow<\/div><\/span> twice.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
Select the option for your device:<\/div><\/span>
If your iPhone is Face ID capable, tap
Face ID \x26 Passcode<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li>
If your iPhone is Touch ID capable, tap
Touch ID \x26 Passcode<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li><\/div><\/ul><\/div><\/li>
Do one of the following:<\/div><\/span>
To turn on passcode:
Tap
Turn Passcode On<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li>
Enter a passcode then re\u002Denter it to continue.
Tap
Passcode Options<\/div><\/span> to choose other passcode options (e.g., Custom Alphanumeric, Custom Numeric, etc.).<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/li>
If prompted, enter your Apple ID password then tap
Sign In<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li>
From the Allow Access When Locked section, tap any of the available options (i.e., Today View and Search, Notification Center, Control Center, etc.) to turn on or off.<\/div><\/li><\/div><\/ol> <\/div><\/li>
To turn off passcode:
Enter your passcode then tap
Turn Passcode Off<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li>
Review the message, then tap
Turn Off<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li>
If prompted, enter your Apple ID password.<\/div><\/li><\/div><\/ol> <\/div><\/li>
To change the passcode:
Enter your passcode then tap
Change Passcode<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li>
Enter a new passcode then re\u002Denter it to continue.
Tap
