Satellite SOS on your Apple®<\/span> iPhone®<\/span> allows you to contact emergency services in the event you are out of a cellular or Wi\u002DFi coverage area.<\/div><\/div>

Before you begin<\/div><\/h2>

To use Satellite SOS, the following requirements must be met:

Must be outside with a clear line of sight to a satellite.<\/div><\/li>

Must have a Satellite Messaging capable device.<\/div><\/li>

Active service with cellular data turned on.<\/div><\/li>

Satellite messaging won\x27t work if the device is in Airplane Mode.<\/div><\/li>

Must be in the contiguous United States orHawaii and Alaska (may not work in parts of Alaska).<\/div><\/li>

Requires iPhone 14 or newer and iOS 18 or newer.<\/div><\/li><\/div><\/ul><\/div><\/div>

Ensure to set up emergency contacts and Medical ID before leaving a coverage area.<\/div><\/div> <\/div><\/section><\/div> <\/div> <\/div>

Steps<\/div><\/h2>

Attempt to call 911.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
If the call won’t connect, the phone provides the option to send an emergency text via satellite. (This may require iOS 16.4 or later).<\/div><\/span>
Tap
Emergency Text via Satellite<\/div><\/span>.<\/div><\/li>
If not an emergency, there may be an option to contact a roadside assistance provider.<\/div><\/li>
Texts can also be sent to a local emergency number by navigating to the Messages app and sending a message to the local emergency number.<\/div><\/li><\/div><\/ol> <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/li>
Tap
Report Emergency<\/div><\/span> and complete the questionnaire.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
When prompted, select
Notify<\/div><\/span> or
Don’t notify<\/div><\/span> to send (or not) info to emergency contacts.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
Follow the onscreen instructions. Keep the device outdoors and with a clear line of sight to the sky.<\/div><\/span><\/div><\/li>
